“The Chai Room concept came from my childhood memories of having guests over, where my mum would make chai to welcome people into our home”.

The Chai Room is a place where people can come together and enjoy time out with the soothing ritual of drinking chai.

"The Chai Room was invited to showcase our products at the August Chai Laneway Festival in Sydney", said The Chai Room founder, Fatema Khanbhai."We held tasings and workshops to educate visitors to the festival about the ingredients in our chai, brewing techniques, and how to create your own chai blend".

"Breville products have always been a part of our household. As well as learning the recipe of chai from my mother she also taught me how to us my first Breville spice grinder and food processor".

“When I moved to Australia after meeting my husband here I was happy to be in the original ‘homeland’ of Breville. The consistency of product quality and durability is outstanding and Breville was my first choice to use in The Chai Room".

“My experience of cooking is based on cooking from scratch, which for me  is synonymous with Breville appliances".

“At the Chai Laneway Festival, I used the Breville Tea Maker™ to make my Saffron Masala Chai.”

Serves

4 cups (chai is always better with company)

Ingredients

4 teaspoons of black Ceylon tea

2 fresh whole cloves

4 fresh cardamom pods

1 cinnamon stick

1/2 teaspoon of freshly grated ginger root

1/2 vanilla pod

Saffron strands to garnish.

Tip: Chai spices can be added to any of your favourite loose leaf tea, try a green tea or rooibos base as an alternative.

Method

  1. Place the basket on a flat, dry surface. Remove basket lid by lifting from the sides.
  2. Use the provided tea scoop to fill the basked with the black Ceylon tea, whole cloves, cardamom pods, cinamon stick, ginger root and vanilla pod.
  3. Replace the lid on top of the basket. Ensure the lid securely snapped in place by pressing firmly on the centre of the lid.
  4. Slide the assembled basket on to the magnetic post located within the glass jug. The assembled basket will attach itself to the top of the magnetic post. Replace lid.
  5. Set the kettle temperature to 100°C and the brew time to 3mins, then press start.
  6. When the water has been brewed and the basket has risen to the top, pour tea evenly into 4 cups.
  7. Add a little milk and add honey or coconut sugar.
  8. Sprinkle the saffron on top and serve.

“This is a delicious drink in the morning as a pick me up due to all the wonderful natural ingredients,” recommends Fatema. “The tea maker makes the chai to its perfectly brewed state and the added 'keep warm' function ensures that you have chai all throughout the morning without the risk of the chai being over brewed.”
